Dressing For The Holidays

Skirt: Zara
Sweater: Urban Outfitters
Jacket: Forever 21
Shoes: Saks Fifth Avenue
Bag: Target
Necklace: Topshop

This is the time of year when many people, including myself, look back at old photos from past Christmas Day celebrations. This is also the time when I'm reminded of some of the holiday outfits my mother picked out for me. Slightly terrifying. There was a lot of red, green, frilly things, sparkles, and ruffles. I would like to think my style has evolved from my childhood. Now, I still stick to green and red, but add elements of these colors a little more subtly to my outfits. I choose lace, instead of ruffles, for a more mature look. I also stay with one festive color, instead of trying to work with all the popular holiday ones.

Although I’m sure the title is self-explanatory, this is what I’ll be wearing on Christmas Day to family gatherings. The holidays are a really exciting time to get dressed up. People dress up to varying degrees;  some families go all out with matching Christmas sweaters, some families do a casual dress up thing, and some families don’t even change out of their PJ’s all day. No matter which category you fall into, finding that perfect outfit for the holidays is always fun.

My family usually hangs around the house on Christmas Day, and then late-afternoon we have a big dinner with our relatives.  I wanted to wear something that was going to be comfortable, but still look dressy. The  lace on this skirt helps achieve the fancier look, while the sweater keeps the outfit more casual. I added a light trench jacket in case it gets cold, or we go outside.

What does your family usually do for the holidays?

  2. I'll be spending my Christmas in comfy items, as per family tradition. We always open presents on Christmas Eve, so I'll be the one wearing cute PJ's and fuzzy socks for the family photo. I love your look as inspiration, though. It looks comfy, but celebratory. I might just have to break the bum mold this year and go for something dressier for my gatherings, too :)

    1. Opening presents on Christmas Eve sounds so fun! I have a friend who does it too, it's such a different idea. Staying comfy on Christmas day in PJ's and fuzzy socks sounds like heaven to me! I'm glad you liked the post!

  3. Great look! Out ritual consists of going to my family's house in the city of the 23rd (today!) and exchanging gifts and singing. My family just usually spends time at home for Christmas Eve and Day baking and just having fun and opening presents. The days after that is usually the fun of getting to try on all of my new clothes and shopping with Christmas money! My favorite part :)

    1. Thank you! That sounds like so much fun. The holidays are all about spending time with the ones you love. After Christmas shopping is the best, there is something that's just so much more fun than shopping on a regular day about it!
