Why I Have a Love/Hate Relationship With Black Friday

Jacket: Forever 21
Shirt: H&M
Pants: Joe B
Shoes: Report

Oh, Black Friday. The time when someone picks up the last of something you want in a store and you have to act like you don’t want it, then as soon as they put it down you swoop in and claim your territory on that adorable crème colored turtleneck that was made for your closet. It’s also the time for contemplating deep decisions, like if it’s really worth saving $10 on your whole entire purchase when you’ve already been in line for 45 minutes and then realizing there’s no turning back.

Now, I’m no expert Black Friday shopper. My previous knowledge on this day only extends back to one night in 6th grade. I don’t really think I was into the idea of shopping as much as I was staying up past midnight. My friend and I showed up to Target around 11:00pm and waited in a line for 2 hours, just to get an I-pad and some Wii video games. My fondest memories of that night were getting free granola bars and vitamin water handed out by the store employees because we had been waiting so long. I ended up crashing at 2:00am and swearing I would never be that person again.

So now, flash forward to this Black Friday. I was visiting my family in Boston this weekend and decided to stop by Newbury Street.  Around 1:00pm (Rookie Black Friday shopper, I know), we took the T into Copley Square. The day didn’t start off on the highest of notes. While riding into the city, I took my gloves off to check something on my phone. It wasn’t until we got off and walked into the freezing cold streets, that I realized I had left my brand new expensive leather gloves on the train. I kind of started freaking out, just kind of.

We were rather clueless about where Newbury Street was located, so we ended up walking around for a few minutes. It felt like negative ten degrees outside, so we ended up running into the nearest store, H&M. The store was so packed it took ten minutes just to make it up one flight of stairs to the women’s department. While dashing to the outerwear section, I passed two girls fighting over a sweater discounted maybe three whole dollars, it was madness. I was so desperate (and cold!!!), I ended up waiting in line for 27 minutes just for a pair of five dollar mittens.

The day finally started to look up in the afternoon when we got our bearings, and we were on a mission to shop. That mission was interrupted by about five stops into random stores, just so we could warm up, but all of a sudden we came upon Zara. The holy grail of clothing stores! My heart was fluttering and my excitement went through the roof. There was a line to just get into the store. Every item inside was 30% off, which was a HUGE discount for the company. Although I was tempted to take the whole entire store home, I kept myself (and my wallet) in check, and bought about 10 things.

I really only hit up Zara because I was planning to do most of my shopping today, on Cyber Monday. Less crowds, easier access to look at things, and free shipping! Woohoo! I thought I’d share my Black Friday attire and story with you guys, and in return, feel free to drop a comment down below about your craziest Black Friday experience you’ve ever had. I’d love to hear from you!
