A Carousel of Color

Coat / Shirt: H&M
Pants: Joe B
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Ear cuff: Topshop
Ring: Pandora

The inspiration for this outfit came from the magnificent carousel which served as a backdrop for this photo shoot. The carousel's deep gold and red colors, combined with the light pinks and whites, gave you an enchanting feeling each time you looked at it.  Everything from the detailing on the horses saddles to the carriage seats was stunning. The murals painted on the sides of the carriages were flawlessly put together. The deep colors echoed a dark and mysterious theme, yet the whites and pinks caused it to appear light and romantic at the same time. This combination was very intriguing, and many people were stopping to look and take photos.

The boldness of the collar is what first attracted me to this coat. It's often difficult to find affordable coats that have unique silhouettes, so when I saw this one, I didn't think twice about purchasing it. The soft and wispy material makes this coat appropriate for the office or a night out. The light color can be perceived as a happy color, but when paired with the all black, it gives off a deeper and even darker ambiance. The coat is heavy, but still flows effortlessly with a little bit of movement. Although it looks light, the material is very thick and can keep you warm on even the coldest winter days.

I believe people who say fashion doesn’t matter don’t truly understand it. Fashion is so much more than just wearing the latest trends or sporting the hottest bag. Fashion is an emotion, and for some, it’s even a passion. People dress according to how they are feeling at the exact minute they’re standing in front of their closet. If you’re feeling happy, you will most likely choose brighter colors, prints or patterns. If you’re feeling down, you’re most likely going to choose darker colors or more "gloomy style" clothing. Fashion is a way to tell people how you’re feeling, without even speaking.

Do you tend to dress to how you’re feeling?

  2. Hi Katie, what a great outfit, I absolute love the black and white combo with the carousel backdrop! Yes I would say most often times I dress based on my mood, and sadly given how cold it's been I've been gearing towards the monochromatic rather than brightly-colored ones. Love this ensemble on you! :) o~ Lena

    1. Thank you so much, I'm really glad you enjoyed this post. I understand what you're talking about 100%! It's been bitter cold here and most days I'd rather stay in my pajamas than try to get dressed. I feel like a lot of people dress in more dark colors during the winter and then in the spring/summer time they break out the floral and bright prints. Glad you liked it!

  4. Those shoes are killer! And your top and pants match so well, I thought it was a jumpsuit at first. So pretty! And I agree that people don't really get fashion. I would say it's not even necessarily fashion, but your personal style (and the variations of it you take based on different moods) says so much about yourself, it might as well be played up.
