Xaviara Simmons Exhibit

Jacket: H&M
Sweater: Zara
Pants: Saks Fifth Avenue
Shoes: Steve Madden
Beanie/ Socks: Forever21

To be completely honest, I'm not much of an art gallery girl. I’m one of those people who looks at artwork and often has to turn to someone and say “just tell me what it means.” I’ve gone to art galleries before where I’ve walked by an exhibit and seen a group of people there, and then walked by an hour later and they were still standing there. I understand a lot of people can appreciate art because they can “see the message," but I’m just not one of them.

The other day we stumbled upon this art gallery while looking for a place to shoot. It was a small room with photographs and artwork from Xaviara Simmons. There were black and white pieces, and also some pieces with bright reds, pinks, and blues. I wanted to include some of the beautiful artwork and pictures in this post. This was the kind of artwork that wasn’t so abstract that it made it difficult to understand. The pictures and paintings captured your eye as soon as you walked into the room.

My favorite photographs were the bright-colored ones with women lifting a layer of their skirts to show what kind of trinkets they had underneath. There were photographs, clips, and feathers attached to their waist belts. There were a particular set of four photographs that really grabbed my attention with their colors.

This outfit is kind of the opposite of those bright colors, but still what I would call an urban gallery look. The pants and sweater are casual, but with the boots the whole outfit is a little more dressed up. The jacket and the hat are perfect for an urban setting.

Do you guys have any favorite artists or photographers that inspire you?
